About Us

Brendon Whitehead, a South African (pictured on the right), and Louis Tung, an American Chinese (pictured on the left), are the driving forces behind Catamaran Legacy Sdn Bhd. The two met in Lumut 30 years ago, after Brendon sailed all the way from South Africa.

Brendon’s maritime journey began with the construction of Kristina, a 47-foot Ferro Cement sloop, in South Africa. Launched in 1985, Kristina sailed across the Indian Ocean to Malaysia three times.

Louis Tung, on the other hand, built a 38-foot marine plywood/epoxy trimaran named Windjammer in California in 1998. He sailed it across the Pacific, eventually landing in Lumut. It was there that he met Kyle, Brendon’s son-in-law and a marine engineer who was residing in Lumut at the time.

The trio’s collaboration began in 2003 when Louis was in the design phase of his first catamaran. Construction started in 2004, and by 2011, Louis had built Supercat II. Brendon and his son assisted in delivering the vessel to its final destination in Pattaya, via Phuket.

Louis also constructed a 45-foot catamaran named Seahorse and a 72-foot party boat called The Beat, which is now located in Phuket. Brendon’s expertise in building power catamarans was greatly influenced by his collaboration with Louis.
